Summary
The purpose of this study is to determine if genetic variations in a gene called KCNJ5 will increase the release of aldosterone (a hormone produced in the adrenal gland) from your adrenal glands (located above your kidneys).
The study will vary the salt content in the body and measure circulating aldosterone levels. As excess aldosterone is also known to increase blood pressure, we hope to see if there is a link between any genetic variation in the KCNJ5 gene and blood pressure.
Participation: 60 volunteers from the Cambridge BioResource took part in this study. The study participants attended two study visits over two weeks.
Organisation: This study was organised by Dr Kevin O’Shaughnessy the Department of Medicine at the University of Cambridge and is situated at Addenbrooke’s Hospital.
